Learning Outcomes

The course consists of two parts. In the first part the student will obtain the knowledge required to pass the tests to obtain the Work Safety and Emergency First Aid certificates. The second part concentrates on adopting safe work practices for studies at the Environmental Laboratory of Vaasa Polytechnic.

Contents

Essential legislation about safety at work. Safety at work on a common workplace. Detection, assessment and abatement of work-related diseases. General work instructions on a workplace; central risk factors and their elimination. Being prepared for accidents and emergency first aid.

Essential legislation about safety at work particularly concerning safety in laboratory and basics about chemical edicts. Being prepared for accidents and emergency first aid. The premises, equipment, chemicals and work methods at the Environmental Laboratory of Vaasa Polytechnic.

Lectures, exercises, laboratory exercises.

Assessment Methods

Two tests, one of each part of the course. Latter part also requires returning of home assignments and laboratory report.
