Learning Outcomes

The student knows chemical, physical and biologigal risk factors appearing at work environment and the responsibility issues related to them. The student can perform measurements related to the quality of work environment

Student's Workload

The total amount of student's work is 54 h, which contains 28 h of contact studies.

Contents

Chemical safety and basics of toxicology. Dust, radiation, noise, microbes at work environment. Risk assessment and measurements. Occupational health and safety legislation. Laboratory exercise on the indoor air quality at work.

Eila Riikonen ym. (toim.), Työsuojelun perusteet, Työterveyslaitos, 2003 (suitable parts). Additionally materials provided by the lecturer.

Mode of Delivery / Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Lectures, laboratory exercises, field visits, written course work.

Assessment Criteria

Grade 1: The student knows those subjects of the course, which are necessary for the forthcoming studies and working life.

Grade 3: The student is well-abled to utilize the course contents.

Grade 5: The student is able to apply creatively the contents of the course.

Assessment Methods

Exam, reports on laboratory exercises and field visits. The student will also produce a written health and safety report on a selected work place and use thereby occupational health and safety literature related to the selected branch.
