Learning Outcomes
Student can goals, practices and processes in environmental impact assessment as whole, student rules the roles and responsibilities of the professionals and participans during the process, students has acquainted with methodology as well as structure and functionality of the assessment procedures. Student can act cross culturally oriented towards the goal when acting as a member of the group in environmental impact assessment procedures.

Contents
Legislation and decrees for environmental impact assessment, principals and methods of the procedures, the environmental impact assessment practice for the projects, plans and programs, qualitative evaluation of procedures and methods and their impact on decision making, social and human impact assessment, role of the authorities and decision making organs, communication procedures and public participation, functionality and affects on decisions making based on the environmental impact assessment procedures.
Recommended or Required Reading and Other Learning Resources/Tools
Legislation for environmental impact assessment, material from Finnish environment centre, reseach publications and sources, existing documentation for environmental impact assessment.
Reference material guidelines given at the beginning of the study unit and documentation supplied by the teacher.
Mode of Delivery / Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods
Lectures 36 h, reserach assignments and projects work reports in groups 20 h, individual critical course portfolio on documented environmental impact assessment procedure and public presentation of it 106 h.
Assessment Criteria
Grade 5: The student shows development tendency, masters the requirements and the contents of the study unit and can apply what s/he has learn in independent work excellently. The student has completed all assignments in a given time.
Grade 3: The student masters the majority of requirements and the contents of the study unit and is able to apply well what s/he has learnt in independent work. The student has completed all requires assignments. Grade 1: The student shows that s/he knows some of the requirements and contents of the study unit and can apply what s/he has learn when assisted. The student has completed all required assignments with grade pass.
Assessment Methods
Individual course portfolio on case studies, written reports and group work 50%. Active participation, group work skills amd public presentation of the portfolio, written exam 50%.
