Learning Outcomes

The student is able to communicate in English both orally and in writing in the business related tasks in the engineer's work.

The total work load 81 hours, of which
- scheduled studies 42 h
- autonomous studies 39 h.

Prerequisites / Recommended Optional Courses

Higher secondary school English followed by the completion of the previous courses.

Contents

Meeting and negoatiation skills, requests for quotations and quotations, complaints, trade fair situations, company presentation.

Recommended or Required Reading and Other Learning Resources/Tools

Material delivered by the tutor.

Mode of Delivery / Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Practice of relevant communication situations and improvement of proficiency at producing both written and spoken texts. Attendence requirement of 75 % in contact teaching.

Assessment Criteria

Grade 5: The student is able to communicate fluently, almost without mistakes, both in speech and in writing in work-related situations. The student can produce a well-structured and correct business documents.
Grade 3: The student knows the essential vocabulary and understands the texts in the field. S/he is able to participate in a work-related conversation, with occasional mistakes and errors in the speech. The student is able to produce business documents though mistakes occur.
Grade 1: The student knows the basic vocabulary of the field and understands the main points of texts in the field. S/he can follow work discussions and can give a presentation by reading it from the paper. The student is able to produce a satisfactory project report, or an abstract for it, using a template.
