Learning Outcomes

The project is a basis for the PLC, relay protection and utilisation of electrical energy studies. The student is introduced to the regulations and technical aspects in contructing electrical equipment in the context of building a motor starter. Electrotechnical drawings study unit is arranged simultaneosly so the matters learnt in theory can be practised in the laboratory.

Prerequisites / Recommended Optional Courses

Electrotechnical Drawings and Measuring Technology. Laboratory exercises can be completed although Occupational Safety and Electrical Safety study unit has not been completed.

Contents

The control of an electro-mechanical relay and contactor are studied first, as ell as their use in operating couplings. As the wiring and testing of control and main circuits are proceeding, a motor starter will be built, equipped with a pus-button control.
The main and control circuit diagrams for the motor starter, in accordance with the standards, are the same as in the theory lessons in Electrotechnical Drawings. During the testing measurements are made and the motor rotated. After the testing the coupling of the motor starter centre is changed to operate with the PLCs.
The structure and programming of a PLC is studied and programming exercises are made.
During the testing the change in the programmed operation is verified while the wired coupling remains unchanged.
