Learning Outcomes

The student understands the technical properties of electrical low and high voltage equipment, structures of air insulated and gas insulated switchgear and the devices used at medium voltage and high voltage substations. The student is able to choose components.

Contents

The topics of this course are the electrical properties and technology of power transformers, circuit breakers, disconnectors , current and voltage transformers, fuses, and surge arresters and their selection principles. The course includes also the structure of low voltage network, transformer substations and main substations and technical properties. The devices will come familiar during laboratory exercises.

Mode of Delivery / Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Properties and selection criteria of equipment related to electrical utilities are learn during lectures. Knowldge is deepened in laboratory sessions where properties of certain equipment are measures and studied in practice. In addition, the use of equipment and their function in power transmission and distribution process is studied in real environment by visiting a 110/20kV substation.

Assessment Criteria

Grade 1: The student knows those subjects of the course, which are necessary for the forthcoming studies and working life.

Grade 3: The student is well-abled to utilize the course contents.

Grade 5: The student is able to apply creatively the contents of the course.

Assessment Methods

Exam and the technical contents and language of laboratory report.
