Learning Outcomes
The student is familiar with the operating principles, characteristics and application of data transmission systems most commonly used in electrical engineering
Student's Workload
Total work load of the course 82 h
Scheduled studies 34 h
Autonomous studies 48 h
The assessment of student’s own learning 1 h is included in contact lessons.
Prerequisites / Recommended Optional Courses
Study units in the previous common core themes.
Contents
The student is introduced to the common principles of data transmission and the most important components of a data transfer network. The areas covered by the study unit are: general characteristics and framework of data transmission protocols, data transmission media and their installation, TCO/IP communication and active devices in the network
Recommended or Required Reading and Other Learning Resources/Tools
Juha Nieminen: Datasiirto (handout); assignment material laboratoty work instructions
Mode of Delivery / Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods
Contact teaching in a PC classroom and guided work in groups in the laboratory
Assessment Criteria
1: The student is able, with guidance, to utilise the knowledge/methods/calculations learnt during the study unit.
3: The student is able to utilise the knowledge/methods/calculations learnt during the study unit independently.
5: The student is able to utilise the knowledge/methods/calculations learnt during the study unit independently and combine the knowledge with previously learnt in various contexts.
Assessment Methods
Exam, assignments, laboratory work and laboratory reports are assessed.
