Learning Outcomes

The student gets familiar with magnetism and related phenomena and is able to solve simple magnetic circuits. The student is introduced to induction and basics of AC circuits and is able to solve basic problems concerning AC circuits.

Student's Workload

The total amount of student's work is 54 h, which contains 24 h of contact studies. The assessment of student’s own learning 1 h is included in contact lessons.

Contents

Magnetism and variables of magnetic circuits, related laws and calculation of magnetic circuits. Electromagnetic induction, inductance and generation of alternating current. Instantaneous value, mean value and effective value of AC current. Resistance, inductance and capacitance in single-phase AC circuits.

Mode of Delivery / Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

The AC theory and it appliance in practice is first looked into during lectures. After this, the students independently apply the learnt skills by solving practical calculations and assignments. The solutions to the calculations and assignments are gone through during lessons.

Assessment Criteria

Grade 1: The student knows those subjects of the course, which are necessary for the forthcoming studies and working life.

Grade 3: The student is well-abled to utilize the course contents.

Grade 5: The student is able to apply creatively the contents of the course.

Assessment Methods

Exam and activity demonstrated in calculations and assignments.
