Learning Outcomes

The student obtains a general view of industrial electrical systems and is introduced to the characteristics of an industrial network. The student is able to rate the main components for an industrial network and understands the economical aspects of the choice. The student is able to interpret documents related to an electrification project of industrial plants.

Contents

General structure of an industrial network. Economical aspects when choosing the components. Short circuit calculations of an industrial network and possibilities to reduce short circuit current. Earthing methods and systems. Generation, effects and reduction of harmonic currents. Rating of harmonic filters.. Rating of an electric drive used in industry, such as a pump or fan. Defining the specifications for the system and studying the related documents. Short circuit calculation and the effect of harmonics are studied using the calculation and simulation tools.
