Learning Outcomes

The student is able to design practical wooden structures and wooden prefabricate structures and knows the modern technology, components and joining methods employed in construction with prefabricated units.

Student's Workload

Total work load 108 h of which
scheduled studies 56h and autonomous studies 56 h.
The assessment of student’s own learning 1 h is included in contact lessons.

Isostatic Structures, Basics of Wood Structures

Contents

Design principles of wooden structures, dimensioning methods, wood products, dimensioning of wooden structures in basic strain situations, joints and extensions, structural systems.
Construction with prefabricated units, site engineering, prefabricate dnits and joining methods, laminated timber, glued laminated timber, plate structures, strutting of wood buildings and wooden high rises.

Puuinfo; Puurakenteiden suunnittelu, abridged design instructions, 2nd edition. Material prepared by the teacher.

Grade 1: The student knows the contents of the study unit that are relevant in working life.
Grade 3: The student is able to utilise the information and skills learnt during the study unit.
Grade 5: The student is able to utilise and apply the information and skills learnt during the study unit.

Assessment Methods

Written exam 70% and project assignment 30%.
