Learning Outcomes
The student is able to design commonly used reinforced concrete structures and to understand the effect of yielding in hyperstatic concrete structures. The student is familiar with material properties of brick and mortar and knows the action of masonry structures under bending and compression. The student acquires a good knowledge of commonly used types of concrete and masonry structures and their physical function, as well as has the skill to consider durability.
Contents
Skeleton of the building, function under horizontal forces. Yielding in reinforced structures. Internal forces of beam structures by yielding. Concrete slabs, column slabs. Yield line theory of slabs. Special structures in buildings, stairs, shelters, high web beams. Design of the reinforcement. Properties of masonry structures: material properties of brick and mortar. Strength, heat and humidity properties. Structures under bending and compression. Hollow unit masonry structures. Types of structures and details.
