Learning Outcomes

This course will expose the students to the components that make up a PC and how they interact with each other. The students will be taken through the basic architecture of the PC, the assembly of a PC, and the basic configuration of it. The student will assemble a PC and troubleshoot the unit until a working PC is achieved.

Contents

The working of a PC, the major peripheral components, the internal architecture, and the function of each component, the configuration and setup of component parts of a PC, practice to build a PC and setup of the basic configuration, the formatting of a hard disk drive, setup of disk partitions and setup of a basic operating system.

Assessment Criteria

1: Know the basics of PC components and can build a PC.
3: Can suggest reasonable configuration of components to build a PC.
5: Good knowledge in troubleshooting hardware/software problems, optimal components selections of building professional PC.

Assessment Methods

Project works 70 % and presentations 30 %.
