Contents

Wireless local area networks and wireless broadband access networks. Cellular Communications and Antennas; Mainly GSM and 3G systems with the emphasis on the WCDMA technology. Theoretical models and measuring techniques.

Lectures and assignments.

Assessment Criteria

1: Understand basics of wireless communication system: frequency band, digital modulation, range of signal, interference, cellular basics, structure of different wireless networks.

3: Know the functionality of common modules in wireless networks, including transmitter, receiver, the functional modules of cellular networks such as BTS, BSC, MSC, etc, calculation of SINR and reuse factor, principles of FDMA, TDMA, CDMA.

5: Deep understanding of wireless signal propagation, channel properties, digital modulation (I/Q diagram, constellation, channel impairment, etc), different MAC protocol used in WLAN, especially CSMA/CA and its performance, multihop network and its key issues.
