Learning Outcomes
The student will get an overview of the telecommunication and the phenomena appearing in it. The student will also know the basic functions/techniques applied in modern telecommunication systems.

Contents
The course should answer to the following concepts:
What is telecommunication? Noise (SNR) and how it affects to the signal in the channel. Decibel (dB) calculations. Types of modulations. Digital TV and HDTV. Encoding techniques. Transmission medias. Basic ideas of different telecommunication systems.

Lectures, assignments and presentations.
Assessment Criteria
Grade 1: understand basic idea of modulation, the difference between different analog modulation techniques, basics of signal/noise strength/power calculation in decibels, basics of data encoding techniques (binary, BCD, Hex, etc), basics of telecommunication network structure (e.g., telephony network)
Grade 3: know the signal/noise calculation well, no problem in decibel calculation, understand amplification/attenuation in decibels, free conversion in different encoding schemes, interaction between the different network components in a telecommunication system.
Score 5: deep understanding of signal/noise representation, details of different type of noise/signal, fully understand the structure and functionality of a telecommunication network, know the properties of different systems.
