Learning Outcomes
Since July 2006 the Kvarken Archipelago was included on UNESCO World Heritage List. The area is the first Natural Heritage Site in Finland. The Kvarken Archipelago is extraordinary. About 10 000 years ago a flat archipelago was released under the inland ice, a moraine archipelago that was formed by the melting ice. When the earth crust no longer was pressed down by the inland ice it started to rise.
Learning objectives:
The aim of this course is to introduce students the specialities of this next door heritage destination in Vaasa archipelago, and to give opportunity to study the unique values of Kvarken, and its attractions as a tourism destination.
Contents
Basic knowledge of UNESCO´s world heritage list and destinations in Finland. Two guided excursions to archipelago and exhibitions (Terranova and Geopark) in Ostrobothnian museum. The students shall produce material for a seminar Attractions in Kvarken.
