Learning Outcomes

Target level CEFR B1. The student attains the oral and writing skills in the second official language in accordance with the Language Decree 6.6.2003/424. The student is able to communicate orally and in writing in various situations of working life. The student will become professionally aware of the significance of the course contents living in a bilingual country and the Nordic community. The student has a positive attitude towards learning languages.

135 h, containing 46 h of scheduled contact studies.

Prerequisites / Recommended Optional Courses

Upper secondary level Swedish studies.

Contents

Speaking and writing skills needed in working life, such as how to talk about your studies and education, company presentations, job interviews, and how to describe practical training and work assignments. Professional texts and vocabulary from the student´s own field of study.

Regional Impact

The student familiarizes themselves with companies in their field in Swedish. The course includes collaboration with Swedish-speaking universities.

Mode of Delivery / Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Oral and written exercises, pair work, group work, and independent study.

Assessment Criteria

Grade 1: The student can mostly communicate understandably both orally and in writing in simple and routine work tasks and other situations. The student understands the main content of clear speech and text dealing with familiar topics.

Grade 3: The student manages quite well orally and in writing in work tasks and other everyday situations. The student can write a coherent piece of content. They understand speech at a normal pace, but less common topics may cause difficulties.

Grade 5: The student can communicate fluently and appropriately in demanding work-related language situations. They are capable of active interaction and can apply the language taught in the course in a versatile manner. The student understands and produces content-rich speech and text. There are hardly any deficiencies in their language use.

Assessment Methods

Active participation in teaching, written and oral exercises, as well as written exams and an oral exam.
