Environmental Planning Project Work

Structure Type: Study unit
Code: IEYS1103
Type: Optional obligatory / Professional Studies
Curriculum: EY 2015
Level: Bachelor of Engineering
Year of Study: 4 (2018-2019)
Credits: 5 cr
Responsible Teacher: Laitinen, Asseri
Language of Instruction: Finnish

Learning Outcomes

The student learns to produce a total survey to determine and model a chosen environmental entity and to assess its development during a wide-scale environmental design project. The student will form a comprehension of the state of the environment and understands the components constituting the environmental entity and their environmental impacts.

The student learns to use data systems used in projects and target-oriented information acquisition for the project. The student develops practical skills to operate in a wide and interactive design environment.

Student's Workload

Total work load for the student: 135 h
- of which scheluded studies: 70 h
- of which autonomous studies: 65 h
The assessment of student’s own learning 1 h is included in contact lessons.

Prerequisites / Recommended Optional Courses

IEYS1202 Landscape Structure
IEYS1102 Geographic Information Systems

Contents

Description models of living environment and their objectives; determining the components constituting the environmental entity; modelling and assessing the state of environment; assessing the causalities between the phenomena in the living environment and its components and assessing their impact; utilising environmental indicators and data systems; modelling the use of environment and functionality; modelling historical past and future development lines; describing the change in the living environment and planning the control of the development line; impacts of environmental disturbances and their significance to living environment.

Recommended or Required Reading and Other Learning Resources/Tools

Material distributed by the teacher, material announced at the beginning of the study unit; material related to the design project; databases and information sources, material related environmental designs used as examples.

Mode of Delivery / Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Lectures, wide-scale individual and group work.

Getting familiar with literature in the field that supports the project, previous surveys and designs, getting familiar with previously implemented objects, and analysing the examples in the field and information acquisition using databases. Project management.

Assessment Methods

Project work and presentation, project management plan, required individual parts of the projects. Self evaluation, group evaluation.
