Learning Outcomes

The student will obtain basic knowledge on water chemistry that enables him/her to understand phenomena taking place in natural waters and during water and wastewater treatment.

Student's Workload

The total amount of student´s work is 81 h, which contains 42 h of contact studies.
The assessment of student’s own learning 1 h is included in contact lessons.

Prerequisites / Recommended Optional Courses

Chemistry in Technology, Chemistry Laboratory Exercises, Water Laboratory Exercises, Waterbody Protection, Introduction to Technical Mathematics

Contents

Properties of water and basics of solution chemistry, e.g. acids and bases, complexation of metals, redox reactions, dissolution and precipitation.

Lectures, home work, exercises.

Assessment Criteria

Grade 1: The student knows those subjects of the course, which are necessary for the forthcoming studies and working life.

Grade 3: The student is well-abled to utilize the course contents.

Grade 5: The student is able to apply creatively the contents of the course.

Assessment Methods

Numeric assessment of final exam. It will be possible to improve the grade by active home work.
