Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, you will be able to
1. to apply the main concepts of the thermo-chemistry of combustion to the evaluation of the quality of combustion in energy systems, including thermal engines
2. to perform calculations of combustion equipment and associated heat-transfer devices
3. to understand the environmental aspects of fossil fuel combustion
4. have knowledge of industrial applications of combustion in energy engineering applications

Prerequisites / Recommended Optional Courses

Knowledge of Chemistry, preferably passed Chemistry course

1. Role of combustion in power/heat; efficiency vs emissions
2. Fuels and properties: Fuel classifications; ultimate/proximate analysis;
3. Principle of Combustion
4. Flame types: Premixed and non-premixed laminar and turbulent flames.
5. Energy generation devices/Fuel combustion technologies
6. Safety Issues and Accidental Combustion
