Learning Outcomes

At some point during an engineering career, you are required to possess a fundamental knowledge of chemistry. For example, choosing the correct materials for a specific application is based on your understanding of chemistry. This same applies to fuel production and use. As a manager, you are responsible for the chemical safety and hazards related to chemical handling.

After this course, the student understands basic chemistry, the periodic table, and knows how to categorize the elements and substances. The student possesses good knowledge about chemical reactions, balance, and mechanisms and is capable of solving basic problems.

Student's Workload

Total work load of the student 135 h, of which
- scheduled studies 53 h
- autonomous studies 82 h
- Self reflection of 1 h is included in scheduled studies.

Contents

Structure of matter, phases, amount of substance (mole), chemical reaction, solutions (chemistry), basics of electrochemistry, and basic of materials science.
